As I anticipated, yesterday I had the wedding of a cousin on my father's side, the side of the family to whom I don´t relate very much. Still, I wanted to go. I did my nails, got a blister on my hair, did my makeup, made big bangs to my hair and weared a short dress, a black belt, black heels and a flower on my head.
My parents picked me up and that was when I found out hat my brother wasn´t coming because he had the funeral of the father of a friend. It was disappointing because my brother is fun and good company for this ocassions. Sister came also, and is excellent company, but as she was with her boyfriend she wasn´t going to be my accomplice.
The ceremony was short and accompanied by the melody of violins that drifted through the walls of stone. After greeting the couple we went to the party. A nice place overlooking the river where the only thing I didn´t like was the intense air conditioning. Lucky for me, the bride and groom arranged for all of us to sit together: my parents, sister and her boyfriend, my father´s sister with her husband, her son with his wife and me, the only single. When the waltz time came, Dad danced with the bride and I went with him. I watched from the side as daddy did what he was supposed to, perhaps wondering if the day when he walks the long corridor with one of us holding his arm will ever come. Then I got to dance the waltz with me and I was thrilled. My dad is so relaxed lately ... it's nice to see him enjoy life. A few minutes later I saw him and Mom dancing, I saw the love they have and what they have struggled to survive as a couple.
The music was fun, and I was grateful there was no carnival brazilian music that I hate and happy to listen classic must-haves like Gipsy Kings. With funny bubbles in our veins, we all danced. Although sister took pity on me and at times left her boyfriend to dance with me, I could not help feeling lonely and a bit depressed. There is something particular on weddings that make single people, if possible, feel more lonely than usual. I do not know if it's the love overdose all around, or the internal Sarah Kay who has watched many romantic movies and imagine situations that do not occur, as the perfect man who approaches a lady and speaks to her when she is bored (or even worse, drunk) looking at the river. The point is that I felt Bridget Jones and it was not pretty, and although I talk about this in therapy and I always say, I know I have a lot to resolve, I could not help wondering Why not me? And Where is my Mark Darcy?
To bring a little bit of joy to this post I want to introduce, Management, a film that I saw some time ago and loved it. The movie speaks of love, what we want to be and to seize opportunities.
I hope You like it…
